Transcribing Two-Syllable Words: Practice


All the following words in the chart below contain two syllables. All vowels studied through the course are present in this exercise. Your task is to transcribe them keeping in mind that we have a clear vowel, except for /ɪ/ or /ʊ/, in the stressed syllable. Consequently, the unstressed syllable includes a reduced vowel: /ʊ/, /ɪ/, or /ǝ/. In exceptional cases, /ɪ/ or /ʊ/ can be part of a stressed syllable.
